Today I want my purple cowboy boots. The new purple ones that hurt my little toe on my left foot. The boots that are not broken in and remind me that if I can endure the hurty toe eventually the purple boots won't be new anymore and they will feel like slippers on my feet. I have to work for the feel of slippers. I always have and I suppose I always will.

Life has never come easily for me and I have not been blessed with extra luck that follows certain people around like a puppy. My luck tends to run away from me when it's called and never sticks around long, kindof like a cat in the spring. I have accepted that these are my parameters..

I found the thinnest pair of socks I own and took the purple boots off the shelf. It is always hard to put the new boots on when the old ones are staring at me and saying "you don't want to wear those. Your feet will hurt. You better put us back on and enjoy the day."

Today I shook my head "no." Today I want to wear the pretty purple ones that are still new. Today I want to make some headway towards these boots becoming worn and comfortable. Every pair of cowboy boots I have ever owned has brought me it's own special magical gift and taught me a special lesson about life.

I felt the sharp ping of the hurty left little toe the second I pulled the pretty purple boots in place. I clenched my teeth and braced myself for a long day of hurty toe. The clouds are thick and black in the sky today and a piece of me wants to hunker down and not leave the confines of home. But the new boots want to see the world. They are ready to go and they don't care what the weather is doing. They know that they are pretty and they know that there is a whole big world out there for them to see.

Purple boots and I headed for the door and made our way out to face the day. As I locked the door behind me I felt the first gift offered to me by my new boots.

These pretty purple boots make me stand just a little taller. Because of the way the heel is on these boots my shoulders need to be pushed just a little bit further back in order for me to stay balanced.

Today I stand taller with my pretty purple boots on.
